What is this? And, how can I repair it?
Any ideas in what it is and how I should go about repairs? Thank you!

Skyval on Apr 17, 2016Wow , that's so cool ! Maybe it's a planter table ? I'd clean and oil or wax it and put some interesting plants in it - so interesting , lucky you .Helpful Reply

Fiona Maughan on Apr 17, 2016It is a French 1950s reproduction planter table, though sometimes used as a drinks table with the copper used for ice to chill bottles and rest for glasses. Give it a good dose of Teak oil, leave for a few days then wax,or for a shabby chic look, paint with a au de nil paint then lightly sand for a distressed lookHelpful Reply

Mickey Baron on Apr 17, 2016I'm in LUV with that lacey border. If you don't want to follow the planter idea, I'd sand, stain, & maybe a piece of special cut glass, placed on top, to make a shadow box. IF it's possible from the water damage. It's AMAZING.Helpful Reply

Jennie Lee on Apr 17, 2016If you want to know what the metal really is, try a magnet. If it sticks, it's steel with copper plating; if not, it's copper.Helpful Reply

William on Apr 17, 2016I would use it as two pieces, 2 for 1. Love the idea of the shadow box. I would use the copper pan as a planter in the yard or by the front door and let it age naturally. Looks so cool.Helpful Reply

Mcgypsy9 on Apr 18, 2016What a beautiful and unique piece! I would totally see if it could be restored at a reasonable price. It could be worth something in the long run. I can tell the pot is copper which itself is definitely worth some bucks. I would never let go of it, such a treasure for sure!Helpful Reply

Elaine robinson on Apr 18, 2016I agree, it's a planter/table. If you like a beach theme, you could add shells/pebbles and bleach glass to the planter, just below level so they don't spill out, and use it for a coaster, or bury a candle or interesting decorator item in the pebbles. You probably could get a custom piece of glass for the entire table top and the shadow box idea would be grand.Helpful Reply

Connie on Apr 18, 2016It may be very unusual, maybe try to find out what it is before painting or separating the pieces just to ensure that is what you want to do rather than restore? Its a very cool piece whatever you decide. Good luck!Helpful Reply

Margolynluvsu on Apr 18, 2016By the water marks on wood, and copper lining, it was a planter. Coper was used alot for planter boxes before they started using tin for liners.Helpful Reply

IFortuna on Aug 12, 2016Definitely a planter. A professional may want to replace the veneer but it is not too bad. You can fill the missing areas with wood putty and stain it to blend. Then a good coat of varnish and you will be amazed. I would use it as a planter and it needs a wood support underneath the planter to support it. That part is easy. Your call but I would have a professional do it. It would be worth it. : )Helpful Reply
