I am so frustrated by these sink holes in Nassau County!!!!!

Causing water leakage under the ground but County is not fixing holes to prevent further damage to property and dangerous mold infestation beneath many residences including shopping centers, privately owned homes, condominiums, co/ops and apartments! :(

Are you referring to the ground water recharge basins? They direct storm water from roadways to specially designed sumps (some large enough to be ponds or small lakes) to return water to the aquifer that is Long Island's sole source of water for our homes. This system, which is completely separate from the sanitary sewer system, filters the storm water through our sandy soil, keeping the aquifer a source of clean water for generations to come.

I know peple who live right next to recharge basins, and I have never heard that they cause problems for property owners.

I understand your frustration. As a homeowner, you can spread LIME ... under your home in the crawlspace to create a layer of natural barrier to moisture. It is sold by farmer's supplies. The initial cost is worth the trouble to keep black mold from getting into the house. If you have a damp, moldy yard, you can broadcast humates across it . These micro bacterial units grow in the water eating off the bad bacteria, reducing smell and balance your yard. Soil remediation experts have encouraged the use of diatomaceous earth (DE) bought from farm supply. (Farmers use it in silos to keep grain dry). It is a crystalized sea shell fractured that absorbs water and will kill off insects also (if spread intensely around the edges of your crawlspace). Lime, Humates & DE are all passive eco-friendly solutions for moldy environments. Wear gloves and mask when working with them as they are extremely DRYING. Learn more at www.enviromateinc.com
