How do I fix a crack in a clear mug?
So I was making one of those noodle cup things and I used a glass mug of my roommates to microwave the water. And I needed two cups, so like an idiot I just filled the cup again with tap water. But because the cup was hot and the water wasn’t it immediately cracked. It looks like it might have been a gift so i was really hoping somebody knew how to maybe fix the crack so it’s gone or unnoticeable. Any suggestions?

General rule with cracked glass is that it will not be safe for use as moisture can get into the crack and break it even more, especially if you use a microwave (it could explode). Normally glass mugs are tempered for hot/cold shock (usually pyrex type glass) and hearing that it cracked like that is suspicious. You may have had a really tiny chip to start that crack. You can still use it, but not for drinks. My nice ones gets re-used as flower pots.
While it would not be safe to use as a drinking mug again, I would not just throw it out & pretend I don't know what happened to it. I would encourage honesty with your roommate & explain what happened, ask how & where you could get them a replacement. Roommate may or may not really care & may or may not be upset with you but I believe they would most likely appreciate your honesty. Personally, I would, regardless of how stupid or neglectful on your part it may have been. Guess maybe I'm a bit old fashioned in this modern world but that's just who I am.
I have suggestion. Don't use room mates things without asking! Buy them a new one. Be Honest.
Not all 'glassware' is created equally, nor is all rated for microwave high temperatures. Unfortunately, it seems that the mug you used may have been one of these inferior types. As others have said, even if you tried to glue the mug back together, it would not be safe to use for drinking.
It could happen to anyone. Be honest with your room mate, and tell her what happened. Then buy her a new mug, or better yet, a pair of quality matching mugs that are microwave rated.
