Jackie...Just remove old and add what you would like. You can cover edge of material with trims. They have so many. I would use a good fabric glue or hot glue. I have one that perfume spilled in and I need to do this. I also redid an old suitcase for my daughter's wedding with burlap. Turned out really nice! Good luck!
Jackie: If the fabric is in good shape, there is really no need to replace... as luggage handlers and weather will again get the best of your luggage! If you want to disguise a bit -- why not a stencil pattern with acrylic paint? ...plus, your bag would be easy to spot on the luggage carousel!
