How to starch a hat?

I have a cool black, wide brimmed hat that was bought with the brim stiff. The first day I wore it, the humidity caused it to become limp and a very 70's wedding floppy hat..... NOT the look I wanted . How can I get a permanent stiffness to the brim?

You can use spray starch or fabric stiffener. My only concern would spraying spray starch on a black hat. You might get some white "dust" residue from the fabric starch. Here's a link to hat stiffener sprays on Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/hat-stiffener-spray/s?k=hat+stiffener+spray

Try spray starch and a warm iron.
I would not use an iron to try to set the starch on the hat, as the 'straw' may not be pure sisal, but more of fake straw with a plasticized coating, which will melt with the heat of the iron.
