I've seen rustic one use old silver ware and scraps of sheet metal...like an old license plate. I've also seen some done with scraps of hardwood to more refined 'found' items like a stained glass sun-catcher.

How about a round glass coaster or a plastic lid from a Ruffels or cookie container. It'll catch the wind and make the chimes create music again.

Thanks for the answers, but I'm still hoping for more ideas.
  • Not knowing what your wind chimes are made of makes all the answers simply a guess. You can use metal nuts or washers, A child's toy wooden block, you can purchase a small metal copper or metal pipe from local store and use it. Is the weight part round to and designed to strike the chimes themselves? If so hit the toy chest again and find a larger round wooden block. Going to a craft store you can find all sorts of round wooden disks for other projects that only cost a buck or two.

Katrina H, did your windchimes have any label on the weighted part that you want to replace?

Katrina H, the thing in the middle of the chimes is a wooden object and the weighted part at the bottom looks to be a light weight aluminum.

we used large washers after sprayed black to match w/ old wind chimes. also, a larger size pipe to replace the middle inside. need to add pixies later to show to understand what we talk abt. we love metal wind chimes and many around in my back yard. ;-)

Katrina H, it sure looks simple to me. Glad I could help. Vicki, your idea about washers is great for the weight.
