This depends on the size of the chimes. But consider heavier fishing line...can braid several strands as well. Might try waxed dental floss...amazing how strong this thin fiber can be..I used it for chimes as well as to repair a beach chair!
Helo Phe,
I found some nylon braided cording in the jewelry section of walmart and I also have used thicker black braided fishing line too —to restring my broken windchimes.
I would use 80-lb. test, braided (not mono-filament) fishing line. Worked really well. I have also seen them done on monofilament fishing line; but I like the braided.
If it doesn't make it look too different, I would use a heavy fishing line. It may last you quite a while. They even come in different colors.
There are several videos, and this one is very popular. I hope it's what you need.
