Closet doorknob fell off. Can't open door

Where are the hinge pins? inside or out. Usually outside, pull the pins up and out . replace knob.

Can you slip a wire hanger underneath and pull a little until you have a tiny crack by the lock/ doorknob? Then use the thinnest file or dull knife to work the tongue back?
