How to stop interior door hinges from spreading grease onto my doors?
How do I stop my interior door hinges from spreading grease onto my doors? I have not put anything on the hinges,they are in original state.Any suggestions would be appreciated,thanks

That is probably graphite dust or a lubricant not meant to be used there. It will clean up pretty well using a spray cleaner(409, Lysol) and wipe the hinge off well all over. I use garage door lubricant on squeaky hinges and NO residue sloughs off on the door. I guess you could go all the way and remove the doors and clean off the surfaces of the hinges, and relube the hinges with the suggested spray before replacing the door on the hinges.
Since no one else has answered yet, here is my 2¢. I'd take each door down (should lift off) and wipe down the "peg" and the hinge part. It sounds like someone got too enthusiastic with lubricant to me. Is the dwelling new? At least for you? Could be someone was trying to fix a squeak or a sticking hinge. You could also try move the door back and forth and wiping the hinges after moving it a few times. I'd think the stuff would have to work it's way out from movement.
