How do I prevent water damage to my window frame in the shower?

My window sits in my outside wall of my bath/shower. Humidity seeps into the corners despite caulking and new (bathroom) paint. Is there a product I can use to water proof the window frame or is there a DIY cover or barrier i can finagle?

Hi Isabelle, here is a video where they waterproof the wall but should also work for the window. It gives you the products to use and what to do.

Hang a clear plastic curtain over the window, making sure it covers the frame if there is shower spray getting on the frame.

Humidity? Do you have an exhaust fan in the bathroom?

Paint the frame with clear polyurethane or spar varnish.

  • Simple answer is to hang a clear plastic shower curtain over it. You could get more involved with a sheet of pvc cut wider than the window width and height and mount it over the window with an 'air gap' between it and the window.

My house is 71 years old & I also have a window in the shower. I went to Bed Bath & Beyond & bought a plastic white window curtain, I also have a white valance above it. Occasionally, the mildew would show where the top meets the center (Latches) & I would clean off. Not really a big deal.
