The kitchen cabinet doors open about a inch. How do I fix the hinge to hold them shut?

Sounds like you need new hinges. The spring is probably broken, which is what happened to a couple of mine recently. Take off the door and remove one of the hinges. If a little metal piece falls out then take the hinge to a hardware store to get a matching replacement. Follow the instructions included with the hinge and you can't go wrong. I had never done it before but now can do three in a half hour. Easy peasy once you get the hang of it.

I have not shopped for cabinet hardware in a long time, but you used to be able to buy them with magnetic closure.

if you have European hinges, you should be able to adjust then by loosening or tightening the screws. Not on the plate itself that is screwed to the cabinet. The screws(3 of them) are (should be ) on the hinge. Hope this is helpful.

I saw someone handle this with a door. Removed the door, and actually bent the hinge pin just a bit. Replaced the door, and it stayed shut. I haven't tried it personally. Just passing on what I saw.

The spring mechanism in the hinges have failed. You can replace the hinges as Barbara has stated or you can install magnetic catches at each of the doors to hold the doors closed.

They sell door magnets at lowes or Walmart.

Or you can buy door magnets on eBay a lot cheaper.

You may want to check the cabinets with a level as well. When I moved into this house, our bottom cabinets closed fine and stayed closed. In about 3 years, they no longer would stay shut and I couldn't figure it out. I saw the cabinet looked like it was trying to come away from the wall. I noticed when I pushed it into place, there was a gap at the bottom. I placed a small piece of wood underneath and now there's no issue. Just a thought in case purchasing new hardware doesn't work.
