What can I do to stop patio door from screeching?

  • is it a slider? mine is and I have to make sure the tracks are always clean (just a couple of pine needles makes it loud) and then I use a little WD-40 and it seems to help.

    Could it be rubbing somewhere? Perhaps there is a little bit of sand in the track. Se if you can figure out where it is coming from, if it is the bottom, it may be a piece of sand. My mom had trouble with that on her slider out to her deck. If it is a regular door, see if it is the hinges that need lubricating, or perhaps it is a tad off level and dragging. That you can probably adjust with the hinges.

    Clean the tracks and lubricate the track and roller with WD40.

    Check to find out where it is rubbing on the frame by finding the shiny areas on the frame or by where the paint has worn away. Remove the screen door and use shims to relevel the door. If it is just the hinges, spray WD-40 on them.

    Clean the tracks and put some WD490 on them.
