Not sure where the stairs are, inside or out. They do make a anti-slip paint.

The anti-slip paint is a wonderful product. The non-slip is made with either organic or inorganic granulars. Many of the paints look fantastic. However, I've learned the hard way how difficult it is to clean when it's indoors. I put it on the floor in my vestibule and it can't be mopped (tears the sponge mop, removes any swiffer-type ). It has to be cleaned with a scrub brush on my hands and knees and then the the water sopped up with rags. A royal pain! I suggest using it outdoors not indoors.

You can add carpeted stair treads.

if you're painting mix silica sand in with the paint in this will give you grip. If you're staining then when applying polyurethane or polycrylic apply one coat sprinkle silica sand and allowed to dry. After it dries paint another layer of the polyurethane or polycrylic.

I have used sand (silica) just as Tammy recommended. You can use tinted or clear
