Depending on your skill level, you probably can... If you are replacing the carpet... better to have a professional do it... it is a major fall hazard if it is not done correctly. If you want to replace the carpet with wood stair treads... measure twice or 3 times... cut once... use a good construction adhesive and the correct screws or nails.... Pinterest.com or DIYnetwork.com or HGTV.com will have instructions on HOW to do it.Helpful Reply -

I think it would be a job for a professional. I have an open staircase going to my second floor and I watched the guys re-carpet them. It was quite a job.Helpful Reply -
