Ideas for a mosaic pattern for a table?

I need to cover a ruined table top that I use outside. I want to use those little glass stones. Not good a making patterns, wondered if someone had already done a table and could share their design. Area is about 2 1/2 feet by 18".

That's a really cool looking table. There are so many patterns out there to choose from or you could do a random design or even a saying that you like. First, you should decide what kind of material you want to use. Broken china, tile, broken tile, glass, or even the glass gems from the dollar store. Then you'll be able to pick a design to work with that material.
Hi Susan, I noticed that you want to use the glass gems. I have used them and they are lovely. There is one little issue; they won't give you the intricate detail that you can get when you use tile. You will also be limited in your color choices. Now, I encourage you to experiment with designs by laying the gems out on your table until you get what you want. Happy crafting.
Hi Susan, I'd be really tempted to just clean and wax the table the way it is. It has that chippy, antique look that people try to replicate. You'd be preserving some of the original design that looks gorgeous. Oh not wax, since it's outside. Use the polycrylic that everyone talks about (They say it doesn't turn yellow). Probably at least 2 or 3 coats. You can get it in a shiny or dull finish I am sure. It looks like the table is the composite wood? If so, the yes, I think I would cover it. I like your glass gem idea. I would paint it first a lighter neutral color because the gems would show up better or any color you like (it's your taste & choice after all). Perhaps even a metal color, silver, copper etc. There are many, many glass gem colors. I think cool colors would look best with the frame. Beautiful Blues & Teals on top of silver or white paint would be an idea. Maybe a swirl pattern would be pretty & not too hard. What ever you do, I would for sure put a few coats of the polycrylic on top to preserve the table and your hard work. Just have fun with it... do what you want... just go for it. Research where to buy the most reasonable gems. WalMart used to carry them in the silk flower/vase area by the bag full and I'm sure places like Hobby Lobby carry them also. Ask about a clear adhesive for glass/tile. Hot glue would not hold up that well and wouldn't let the paint color show through as nice as a professional adhesive. Anyway, Good Luck & don't be scared.
