How to repurpose Meow Mix cat food containers
I can't get myself to throw these out because I think there must be a cool project for them.
Go to the craft store (Hobby Lobby or Michaels, etc.) and look at how simple those "crates" are that everyone uses for crafting. Use the same technique in building a box.
Be sure and use glue as well as screws...make sure you do not use screws so large as to split the wood. From what I have seen of pallet wood, I would buy some squares of a good wood to screw the slats into.
I would also use good wood pieces for any framing of the opening in front...you will need some sort of framing if you intend to attach hinges for a door.
