I want to cut the top of a ceramic globe type lamp base.

I assume its ceramic !! how can i do this. I would use this as a planter outdoors. Thank you so much.

    Dremel has a glass cutting attachment that I would use. Depending on the thickness, you may be able to use a simple glass cutter that would be more cost effective.

    It depends on how it's connected. I would take it apart as much as possible, pulling the wires. Quite often, parts are attached after the wire is put through. Sometimes there are bolts, washers, etc. and it might be screwed together. Once you take it apart, you will have a better idea of how much you have to cut. Be careful, and wear eye and hand protection.

    this site had a cute lecture on cutting wine bottles by tying yarn around where you want to cut, then setting it on fire and immediately plunging it into ice water. I wonder if that would work. However need a plan to deal with sharp edges after

    Most lamps are primarily held together with screws, gravity and sometimes old glue. Disassemble completely, usually starting at the bottom.
