Keeps things from clumping, like sugar, salt etc.
They soak up moisture. If you have any sterling silver place them where you store it as it will keep it from getting tarnished. Anywhere where you want o keep out moisture. Just don't eat them, they are poison.
They absorb moisture.

According to Consumer Reports, the packets contain a silica sand. This is not poisonous although you could choke if you tried to swallow it. You can reuse them to absorb moisture, as Lisa said, by drying them out in your oven.

I put mine in suitcases that seldom get used, that way they don't get a musty smell. Also drop them in heavy winter boots when storing them away for next year. Also seldom used purses?
I use them in my dresser drawers to absorb moisture out. There are drawers of things I don't use often, such as evening bags, and they tend to get a moldy odor. This was particularly important when I lived on a lake.
Also, if you are really ambitious, you can open those packets up and save the silica inside and if you have enough, you can dry flowers.
Thankyou, that is a very good use, but I don’t think that is what I was saving them for. Anyone else have an idea?
