What can I do with empty cat litter containers?

Their so big and free. I’ve even considered filling them with concrete and using for footers for decks.

Paint them and use it to plant flowers or tomatoes.  Don't forget to make holes at the bottom to drain the water.

I do pet sitting, and one of my clients keeps an empty litter container next to the litter pan to receive the soiled clumps. The lid contains odors, and once the pail is filled with soiled litter it is disposed of. I wonder if one could make mini composters from  them, using suitable kitchen scraps? They'd be small enough to shake rather than having to turn with a rake.....and you could keep them in rotation from newly-started to fully composted.

I also usually use them to scoop dirty litter into. But honestly, wash them once empty and they can be painted and used for anything. I've seen people use them to store kids toys, craft supplies, pet food (rather than having the bag around which is easily broken into), and any number of other things!

I bet they could be used to contain small toys like Legos, matchbox cars and the like. Do the labels come off, or are the printed on the plastic? No matter, a roll off contact paper from the dollar store could be used to decorate them and hide the labels. I bet there are many storage ideas I haven'the thought of. They are so sturdy, should have many uses to keep them out of landfills.

I saved one with a handle and a small screw top opening that I washed to put clean water in for washing up when the power goes out (it goes out a fair bit).  The other kind with the big lid are great for composting in the kitchen.

You can use then to store taters or onions just put some holes in them first. If you have small children you can put your cleaning supplies in so the little ones can't get into them

MAKE A 'CAT HOUSE '
I cut off the tops and then cut down the middle of the largest side and then around the bottom leaving it attached on the short side. Do the same with the second jug. Over lap the bottoms just enough to glue together flat. Now fold the corners using the flat edge of your scissors to make them 90 degrees. With the cut flaps on the same side cut out an opening large enough for your cat. Cut a piece from each of  the discarded tops long enough use as joining cross pieces and glue them to hold the 2 cut sides together. I  used heavy duty cardboard covered with a piece of carpet from the dollar store on one side as a pitched roof.  Use pieces of a jug cut into strips to attach the roof to the sides.  And cover the inside with an old piece of blanket.  You can jazz it up any way you want but using the litter jugs to make a 'cat house' just seems fitting. You can make this even larger by doubling every thing.

My water comes from a well which doesn't pump if the power is out. So I keep water in my cat litter jugs for flushing the toilet when the power is out.

Instead of spending money and time trying to transform them, I would suggest that you donate them to the SPCA or Animal Shelters. More often than not, these organizations rely on donations from the public in order to be able to continue providing services.
