What can I make out of the round plastic spools

I have at least 20 of them an instead of throwing them in the dump I would like to make something with them. There the size of a regular wooden spool but smaller. I was thinking a planter but dont know how to go about it.

How about making them into checkers. Draw your own playing board big enough to accomadate spools. Paint them. Best thing about it is they are big enough and easy to move and pick up especially for people with arthritis.

What size are the plastic spools?
I saw on this site about making Christmas ornaments out of wooden spools so assume with some adjustments, you could do the same with plastic. Use pictures or scrapbook paper and hodgepodge around the spool in whatever colors u want and then add a hook at the top and matching beads hanging through the bottom of the spool.
Paint with bright non toxic paint and put in toy box for toddlers. Can roll, stack or string them.
