Here is a simple solution I used to create a privacy frosted glass window. Though it could last forever, it's nice that it is totally removable so could work for renters too!
I use the removable window film, it comes in everything from stained glass, to translucent panels some with etched designs, and some with colored patterns. I chose a green leaf design for the panels above the bed.... those awful transome windows. The translucent film I put on my kitchen windows to reduce sun damage and heat has been up for 17 years.
