How can I make curtains from a drop cloth?

Hi Dee: Here are a couple of sites that may help sut be sure to wash the material before using. Drop cloths are washable and has a tendency to shrink when washed. In order to wash them, soak the fabric in a mixture of bleach, hot water and hydrogen peroxide for a few hours. The hydrogen peroxide helps neutralize the bleach so it doesn't ruin the fabric. Add 2 cups of bleach and 1 cup Hydrogen Peroxide into a large sink full of hot water. If you have a top loading washer, I would suggest bleaching in there and allowing it to sit for several hours before running the whole cycle through. Stir every so often, you can use a broom stick. wash the cloth on a hot cycle with another cup of bleach and a regular amount of detergent added to the load. Once that load is finished, wash it once more without bleach or detergent, and lots of fabric softener. Lastly, I dry the drop cloth with about 15 dryer sheets to soften the fabric. Most drop cloths have a double stitched hem with neutral colored thread.

If you already have curtains that you like, use them as a pattern to cut and sew the drop cloth. Make sure that you add a seam allowance if you are piecing them together and to allow for a hem.

I just put my drop cloth in the washer and air dried. I have a custom look and the cloth was easy to sew and the curtains are wonderful!
