SUN TROUBLE

MY APARTMENT HAS SUN ALL DAY LONG AND STAYS SO HOT CAN ANYONE TELL ME WHAT WE CAN DO TO BLOCK IT WE HAVE AN OVERHANG BUT DOES NOT BLOCK OUT SUN TO WELL WE REALLY NEED SOME KIND OF BLINDS OR NICE COVERING LAND LORD KINDA PICKY NOTHEN TO MAGUYVER

measure your windows inside the framework cut a length of 1inch wide wood to the width of the window now take a length of the kind of fabric that builders or decorators use to save the floor getting spoiled its cotton we call them cotton twill dustsheets.cut it to fit the batten of wood then staple it to the wooden batten either glue or screw the whole thing into the window recess if you like you can make rows of little running stitches that you can gather up or you can sew some pleats in it.this fabric is pretty with small cut out pieces added whatever takes your fancy fabric birds or hearts or sew on beads or crystals just pretty them up any way you please.its simple to take down causes minimal damage two screw holes easily filled later.its cheap washable light weight and lets in some light but protects enough from the sun you could make two plaits from left overs and use them as tie backs if you cut the fabric up the middle all the way to the top to make simple curtains

this fabric also lends itself beautifully to stencilling or block printing you could do some really rustic leaves or potato prints or go really fancy with a gorgeous delicate stencil design if you dont like the colour you can use turmeric or coffee or beetroot or onion skins to dye it or even grass

if you still want light, just not the heat.. try taking a white sheet affixing it to window frame as close to glass as possible..trim close take ribbon ,binding tape or lace glue to cover edges, then hang nice lace curtains or sheers, but a lot of them so bunched up..from out side you cant even tell.you can do this cheap by using second hand or garage sales ..a homemade light defuser.

You could have one or more of the blind companies come out and give you ideas and estimates. There is also a film that you can put on the inside of the windows, they help with heat, UV rays and even privacy. I have used the film and it worked really well, you should be able to find them in the yellow pages.

I would suggest the film but it does block your view - Black out curtains also work very well

you can buy black out curtain material as well as the ready made liners that go behind your curtains you have now, it's insulated and keeps out heat & cold

Solar roller blinds from Lowes or Home Depot. Work just like old fashioned window blinds, but don't totally block the view--which is what I wanted. Cost is reasonable and you roll them up or down as needed. Helped in my sun room immensely.

I was going to mention the Solar roller shades that DLynne already mentioned. They are great and I have used them before. The ones at Lowe's are reasonably priced and can be cut to fit the inside of your windows.

are you looking for cheap? use canvas drop cloths for painting. .many sizes. heavy enough to help keep out the heat. paintable for decoration. use the large gromit kit. and cheap rods. very easy to move with you and very heavy to wash. just hose them down .lol

I like the drop cloth idea. And, it can be decorated easily. I would have them just as they are mi like the look.
