Car wax on chalk paint or milk painted furniture?

Question

Can anyone tell me if using car wax on chalk paint or milk painted furniture would work?  I've got a piece of furniture I'd like to try using 'home made' chalk paint on, and want to seal it, but find it a bit expensive to buy Annie Sloane's Chalk Paint Wax or other such 'specialized' waxes, so I'm wondering if using turtle wax/car wax would work as it can also be used for other things around the house . . . Thanks in advance!

It is not recommended to use car wax.Try a water based polycrylic sealer .This will help prevent scratches.

I use Minwax Paste wax when I do furniture. You can get it at Lowes or HD and is only about $10. Its a little stinky, but the smell doesn't last.

I don't see why not.. Wax is wax. I'd try a test piece first though but, if it's not successful, surely the beauty of chalk paint is that you can just paint over it anyway ?

Car wax is not as soft as wax for chalk paint. I don't think it would move around as on a 
slick finish like a car. You don't want a very thick layer at a time.

The MinWax paste wax is easy to use, hardens when dry and cannot be painted over. Paint will easily flake and scratch off... Found that out while playing with my test boards.
