Is there a classic looking treatment that can be added to the top of doorways in a home where there was obvious cracking of the sheetrock due to settlement at one time?

I had a crack start at the ceiling & go down to the top of my door frame. I used a stencil & sheet rock mud & made a raised stencil design that covered the crack. hope that helps.

Depending on the style of your home, you could add a framed mirror above the door to look like a transom. http://decorhacks.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/diy-transom.jpg Though it would be much easier to just repair the crack.

I put family pictures on the top of my frames you get the plastic ones from walmart in the size you need and they hide alot of sins. You could also use scrapbook paper too to change with the seasons again in the frames.

I mounted shallow bookshelves above all the doors in the bedroom hallway. We had 6 doors to work with so we just ran the shelving all the way round the hall. Decorated with books, boxes, baskets, candles and plants. Added some framed photos on the shelves and on the wall. No one can see the cracks, they don't stand out after simple repairs. Bonus: more storage.

Haven't you seen the commercials? cracks are bad. You might have foundation problems causing the cracks. I would have it looked into soon if I were you..

Hi,find a plastic stencil you like and a small can of spackle. Use masking tape to hold to the wall. Spred it on with spackly knife or what ever let it dry. Then lightly sand it and paint . You can make it a piece of art over all the doors and such. Have fun and good luck.
