Help Me Identify This Stone
-
KMS Woodworks on Mar 17, 2013It does look like marble to me as well...but as is the case with natural stone the variability can often be pretty wide. I have seen some variation in a single box go from near pure white to full grey to a swirled mix of both. http://www.graniteland.com/stone/color/white the above site has about 180 white granites and marbles listed. and if you search the same site under "grey" you will get over 350 listings. Where did you get this tile? are you trying to get more..design a project etc. as far as the price goes 26 bucks a foot is up there...I have seen a lot of marble that look close to this for about 1/2 that price or even less. http://www.homedepot.com/p/t/202508330?productId=202508330&storeId=10051&langId=-1&catalogId=10053&cm_sp=BazVoice-_-RLP-_-202508330-_-x#.UUXdNBdnrVEHelpful Reply

Sixteenfourteen on Mar 17, 2013Thanks for the help! I'll check out that site and see if I can figure it out. I got a sample and asked the tile designer what it was called, she just hasn't responded yet. I want to google it and see if I can find some inspiration photos for our master bath.Helpful Reply

Brush by MacDonald Wlodarski on Mar 19, 2013It isn't Carrera unless it is an "off cut" or a B or a C grade and I don't think it is. Carrera is more white with thiner lines of grey even with the cheaper cuts- carrera is still mostly white. This looks like something from India or Pakistan.Helpful Reply

Sixteenfourteen on Mar 19, 2013It's not Carrera marble but it's definitely marble, and it's the same price as Calcutta (more than Carrera)...playing phone tag with the tile person but I'll definitely report back! Thanks all.Helpful Reply

KMS Woodworks on Mar 26, 2013I see the price is a bit better at about $14 a sq....So the million dollar question is where are you going to use it? @Designs by BSB The "pattern" of natural stone is variable, but is it NOT limited to the type of stone. What differentiates granite from marble is not "looks" but its chemical composition, density, grain structure etc. Some granites are very uniform ( like absolute black ) others have larger grain like Uba Tuba. http://geology.com/rocks/granite.shtml Marble is a Metamorphic rock made from a limestone base. Granite is an igneous rock. Both of these have completely different profiles for composition, hardness etc. What is sold in many show rooms as "granite" are actually far from the true geological definition of "granite". http://geology.about.com/od/stonestuff/f/granitestone.htm Sorry about the geology lecture...deep down inside I'm still a science geek and it bugs me when people use the wrong terms for things. After all education is what lead us out of the dark ages.Helpful Reply
