Hang curtains at ceiling or under crescent?
-
Kathy Meador Wells on Jan 13, 2016If it were me I would hang them under the crescent part. However I know how bad it is to have the blinding sun coming in mid day. Having said this, good luck. I do know you can order special window treatments for the crescents.Helpful Reply

Janet Pizaro on Jan 13, 2016If I was hang hang the curtains my personal taste would over the top of the windows. I do however prefer shades or blinds. I see those windows with roman shades. What a beautiful view.Helpful Reply

The Chirping Frog on Jan 13, 2016You can see from the drawing how hanging under the crescent tends to shorten the room while at the ceiling draws the eye up and expands the sense of space. If it were me, no question, they'd go at the ceiling.Helpful Reply

CK on Jan 13, 2016I worked on an historic house with similar windows. I specified sheers hung within the frame of each individual window (just the rectangle part, not the arches) and then panels on the outside of the entire window area mounted above the arches at the ceiling. It looked wonderful. Wish I'd taken a pic ;-) Even with the sheers on the windows, you can still push them aside (use two panels per window) when not needed to help with the sunshine.Helpful Reply

B. Enne on Jan 13, 2016How pretty! At one time I would have said below, but I would definitely put them above to showcase the whole window and view, and to make the room look bigger.Helpful Reply

861650 on Jan 13, 2016I so love your room! How beautiful! Hang your curtains at the ceiling. Are the curtains going to cover the windows when closed? If not, why have a rod that goes across the wall? You can hang small rods at each end only but it all depends on the look you want. If you choose the small ones you may want them to be invisible? You do not want to do anything that takes away from your windows and that great view.Helpful Reply

Marion Nesbitt on Jan 14, 2016Would do a mini-slat blinds inside the frame of each rectangle. These windows are so beautiful I wouldn't cover them with draperies.Helpful Reply

Dana Parrish-Kelter on Jan 14, 2016Definitely from the ceiling! It will make you room look bigger, hanging lower will make your room look squatie ( shorten your windows)Helpful Reply

Cherie Stembel on Jan 14, 2016What a gorgeous view! To the ceiling would keep the focus on the expansion view. Also, I would keep the curtain neutral and clean lines So as not to compete with the beautiful curves of the windows and the view.Helpful Reply

Becky on Jan 14, 2016I would hang curtains at the ceiling across the entire wall. Two reasons: Closed, the curtains would help to center the furniture in the room. Open, the Palladian windows would be viewed in their gorgeous entirety.Helpful Reply

Barbara on Jan 14, 2016I agree on the ceiling you don't want to cover that beautiful architecture. Nor do you want to hide that wonderful scene outside .Helpful Reply

Carol on Jan 14, 2016I would not put any curtains up. I like the architecture of the windows and I don't think curtains are necessary since it looks like there's no one living behind you that can look in your house. It seems private enough to go without.Helpful Reply

Viviana Leal-Honaker on Jan 14, 2016I think you should do it above the window closest ceiling the other way it blocks the beauty of the windows and the view and makes the room look smaller. Placing the curtain close to the ceiling makes it looks more grandioseHelpful Reply

Ruidoso on Jan 14, 2016Why even put up curtains? I have a window in my mountain cabin that doesn't have a curtain. As far as I am concerned, it will never have a curtain. IF privacy is not an issue, DON'T cover that beauty up!Helpful Reply

Pam on Jan 14, 2016You said the sun is blinding? Such a beautiful view. I would suggest UV window film to keep the view intact and solve the sun problem. If you're set on the curtains, I would definitely go with the closest to the ceiling. Although I really like the area without curtains. Just my two cents.Helpful Reply

Connie on Jan 14, 2016Privacy is not the issue. She wants curtains to keep the sun out. Personally I would hang the curtains just above the curved ones. Perhaps add a smart looking shelf to display a pretty collection or springtime garland. Please whatever you decide, post after pictures.Helpful Reply

Ksm9542 on Jan 14, 2016consider 3M film which will keep the heat down but still keep the view. It comes in different degrees depending on how much you need to control the sun's blindness. It's easy to apply and you could put on just the windows or if needed put on the eyebrow Windows as well. Price would be less too. We've used it in one of our homes as well as a corner office at our company.Helpful Reply
