Need method to remove rust and mildew from good garden tools

MN Mom on Jan 27, 2016Darn it! I have had that happen too with metal hand tools. I got a bucket and piyred sand in it. I added a little motor oil and the brushed the tools up and down like you're digging in the sand with them and rust came off just fine! You can also try a product called Wink for removing rust. Are the tools with mildew plastic? If so, you can try a regular mildew remover (read labels carefully) .Helpful Reply

The Garden Frog with C Renee on Jan 27, 2016do not worry about rust and do not wrap your garden tools in plastic. I have some garden tools that are at least 50 years old or older and I do nothing for them but hang them in my garden shed. Sometimes I put them away with dirt on them, some of my tools have some rust, and I have even left the out in the rain. I would wash them down with whatever cleaner you have if they are metal or fiberglass handles but if they are wood handles I would leave them out in the sun to dry out. So from now on just keep your tools hanging, leaning, or standing out of the weather.Helpful Reply

Howard on Jan 28, 2016never use plastic to protect metal, it create its own moisture. There is a product called OSPHO, made by Skyco Company, Spray this on the rusted metal, wait 20 -30 min. wash it off with a water hose, dry it off , spray W-D-40,to protect the metal.Helpful Reply
