Washer/dryer ugliness

Leslie Lazzarini on Feb 19, 2016I can't tell how tight the fit is but if you have the room, a floor to ceiling sheet rocked wall that just comes out to the width of the W/D? You can always paint it, cover it with your backslash material, or bring the backsplash material around. Or if you like the cupboards, cover it with a matching veneer? If you don't have room, maybe make a "privacy wall" hanging from the ceiling out of whatever materials you heart desires. Either way, from floor to ceiling or hanging from ceiling down, I'm sure you can find lots of ideas here. :)Helpful Reply

Sue c. on Feb 19, 2016A bit more info needed, sweetie. What "look" are you going for? There so many options that could look really great, but we need a hint about what you dream of seeing in your kitchen. Is the spot in the kitchen permanent? What is covered up on the end wall? Tell us more! You know we are bursting with ideas!Helpful Reply

GrandmasHouseDIY on Feb 19, 2016A curtain would also work, if there's room between the washer/dryer and the counter it could hang to the floor but, if there isn't room, you could just let it fall to the top of the counter. They make curtain rods that turn in at the ends so you could attach it to the ceiling, they also make swing arm curtain rods that only attach on one end. I think a neat idea would also be to build a shallow cabinet that runs from the ceiling to the top of the counter (think spice rack) that would basically just be shallow open shelving, it would hide the washer and dryer but also give you some extra storage as well, you could even paint it in fun colors using a wallpaper across the back of the shelves so by hiding your eyesore you would also create a pretty focal point :)Helpful Reply

Bonnie Woolever on Feb 19, 2016Box it in with a Universal End Panel, like they use to box in refrigerators. Or box it in with MDF and paint it the same color as your cabinets. That might be less expensive. Use a curtain in front of it if you don't want to see the W/D at all. Good luck!Helpful Reply

Bron on Feb 19, 2016Pintrest has some good ideas. on the pintrest site just type in laundry deco ideas and see what comes up. One idea was to have large dots and stripes attached to the appliances. I thought it looked very cute. Also it might look ok if you put a couple of hanging plants on top of the washer and have it tailing down the side. Good luckHelpful Reply

M on Feb 19, 2016Oh my goodness! Thank you all so very much! How generous of you to take the time to answer, and there are so many good ideas here. In reply to Sue C, we are going for a rustic look, but with a lot of modern touches. That is the permanent place for the washer and dryer, and the wall behind them and next to them is just painted. The counter top is granite, the floor is slate, and the cabinets are maple. We have all kinds of old wood and wood beams everywhere else. It is a tiny little place (700 sq ft) and we've been working on it for almost 4 years due to expensive taste but low funds. So DIY ideas are all we can do at this point.Helpful Reply
