CityGirl Rajan on Feb 24, 2016I painted my tub twice once with the spray kind and the other I rolled on and neither lasted more than a couple of years and I followed the directions to a T. It yellowed and it peeled. I hear that you can get commercial grade and it will work much better.Helpful Reply

CityGirl Rajan on Feb 24, 2016PS I looked it up on my blog and I used Rustoleum 2 part tub and tile refinishing kit the first time (and I had to use two kits). It looked beautiful but it was slippery and you are not supposed to use any grips, rugs or anything in the tub or they say it will pull it up. I used one of those rubber door mats with cut out holes and it lasted about 5 years. One day I took a hot bath in Epsom salt and the whole bottom of the tub bubbled up and came off. It looked terrible!!! The second time I used ReNew and I did that September 2014 and it came up about two months ago. If you like to take hot baths be warned! The second application was not even bright white like the first was. If you paint a second time you have to make sure you get all lifting edges up and then the layers melt into each other. It look flawless except for the obvious discrepancy in colors. I was disappointed. I heard Bathworks is good but the problem with all of them is that you need to get reviews for people who used this product years ago. They all look great initially!! Hope that helps...Helpful Reply

Dorothy Roush on Feb 24, 2016I used the Rustoleum brand when I was selling my grandmother's house It looked great when we were done and certainly helped sell the house, but I have no idea how long it lasted.....Helpful Reply

MN Mom on Feb 24, 2016I know a guy who also painted his tub. The results initially were great but it didn't last either. We have a place here called Re-Bath. You could check your area and see if there is one by you as they do resurfacing of tubs and showers stalls.Helpful Reply

Barb Orthmann on Feb 25, 2016i used the rustoleum product. The tub came out looking brand new and so far has held up very well. The process, however,is not for the faint of heart. You have to follow the directions to a Tee and wear a vent mask. It smells horrible. take your time during the painting process or you'll get bubblesHelpful Reply

Lis2891295 on Feb 25, 2016I used Klenk's Epoxy Enamel for our clawfoot tub. The finish lasted years, but you do need to do a thorough prep with TSP to ensure there is no soap film/dirt in the porous parts of the current finish.Helpful Reply

LD on Feb 25, 2016The problem with the kits that you can purchase at the hardware store, are not the same quality of product that professional tub refinishing can do for you, and they don't last long. I recommend that you find a professional tub reglazing company.Helpful Reply

John Rado on Feb 25, 2016I used a two part epoxy acrylic paint from Home Depot. It's made by Rust-Oleum. It's called Tub & Tile Refinishing Kit. Have to apply thin coats, approx. 3 times. Very happy with the product.Helpful Reply

Johnchip on Feb 25, 2016It is all in the prep. It is all in the prep... I say again...it is all in the prep. Follow the instructions exactly! These products work real nice, and all are a bit different. Follow their particular instructions. Do not use substitutes in the process steps. (if they say one brand cleaner do not use a store brand you think is the same)Helpful Reply

Trudy on Feb 25, 2016I painted my tub with a kit from Lowes. I followed all the directions extra carefully. it looked beautiful, but not for very long! The paint started peeling and the surface underneath looked awful because it had the gloss sanded off so the dirt stuck. I was embarrassed it was so hideous! I hired a professional to come and repaint it. It cost about $600 and comes with a GUARANTEE! The other people want to put a plastic cover over your old tub for about $6,000!Helpful Reply

Nadlou on Mar 07, 2016As a DIYer, I wanted to do it myself but after researching others' experience, I decided to have professionals redo my cast iron tub. It's been two years and so far, it looks like new, and yes, I use it! The kits from hardware stores just don't cut it - I've heard that several times.Helpful Reply
