what plants/flowers will grow where there is a lot of water

my back yard floods when it rains, What kind of flowers will grow that come back every year?

    Hostas. They will grow in the street! But, if you have deer in the area, they will devour them. You can try sprinkling cayenne powder on it. That has worked for me.

    Many plants are happy with it pretty wet, Pamela. Clethra, Itea and red-twig dogwood are three flowering shrubs that readily come to mind and that I think would be hardy where you are. For perennials, think of Chelone, Ligularia, Lobelia, marsh marigold, Joe Pye weed, many of the irises, and, of course, ferns.
