How do you grow a dwarf fan palm from an existing plant?

I live in SC and we are moving and I want to try and get a clipping or something to take it with me and plant it in our new home. I noticed that there are little berry things at the base, but are they seeds or do I need a clipping? And if I do need a clipping, how do I do that? Where do I clip it from and what care does it need?

Erin, I assume you are taking about a European fan palm, Chamaerops humilis. Palms are usually grown from seeds, but it will be quite a while before your palm is much to look at. If your plant is in a clump, or has suckers, it can be divided, but that is a chore. Take a look at this link, which shows what the berries look like. It's similar to that, but it doesn't grow up like that. It stays close to the ground. Like a bush

I'm not exactly sure which palm you have then, but it is likely those berries are seeds, and that is what you need.
