MN Mom on Apr 30, 2016You may want to research the height maximums allowed for fencing in your area. Plantings could work over time (years in most cases) but a lattice section or two would be the quickest and simplest way to go.Helpful Reply

Mary Laniewski on Apr 30, 2016If you are looking for something green, try clumping bamboo. The clumping type is non-invasive. I don't know what zone you live in. Check your zone before making a decision. There are many types of shrubs out there. False cypress, wax myrtle. pivot hedge, arborvitae, etc. Buy your plants big so they won't take so long to grow. Lattice as mention above, with climbing roses, antique roses are very hardy, vines....Helpful Reply

Brett on May 01, 2016Bamboo, bamboo , bamboo. There's so many types now that are all different growing in height, width of stem and even colour. I had same problem and I used black bamboo and it's perfect (as I said any colour even green with yellow or blue with green etc Etc)Helpful Reply

Jill on May 01, 2016Bamboo is great but a warning- it will take over and send shoots EVERYWHERE including under your house. You will have bamboo in places you never wanted it. I suggest you plant it in containers that are sealed so the roots can't get out.Helpful Reply

Liz Straughn on May 01, 2016I've seen a "privacy fence" made with white gauzy fabric. The person hung it over a clothesline or wire and tied a knot at the bottom. It is weighted down at the bottom to keep the Kansas winds from blowing it all over the place. It is about 12 feet high and the length of their house...about 50 feet or more. They put it up last Spring and it's still in good shape through the winter. They have it attached together at the top between each panel of fabric. Each panel of fabric is the full width of the fabric...about 45-60" wide. It took a lot of fabric, but they used cheaper fabric and it's probably much cheaper than a fence panel. It's also very pretty. They also hung lights on the line.Helpful Reply

Constance Ryan Leach on May 02, 2016What about using painter's drop cloths and clips to hang on a wire or PVC pipe? You could make a PVC frame work, anchor it flower pots filled with quick crete to hold it in place (and even move it around as needed) then add the rings, clips and drop cloths. These would be fairly substantial, and you would have some good privacy that way! :-)Helpful Reply

Jeanne Martin on May 02, 2016I just saw fairly inexpensive rolls of reed fencing at Home Depot. I have a similar issue with my backyard. It's 6 ft high and each roll is 16 ft long for $25! It is very lightweight and I'm just now thinking I'm going to attach one end to my carport pole (tie it??) and the other end (and any needed supports inbetween) with some treated lumber (I'm thinking 2x2's) that wouldn't take much to put in the ground. I have a tree that i might be able to use instead. I don't need 16 ft long tho! Obviously I don't have it all figured out yet but I thought I'd share my idea. A flowering vine would be gorgeous on it. I'm not all that handy and I'm retired (aka old!) but I think I can make it work. Here's the Home Depot link if you are interested http://www.homedepot.com/p/Backyard-X-Scapes-6-ft-H-x-16-ft-L-Reed-Fencing-HDD-BIN-RF01/100661555Helpful Reply

Lynn Palmatier on May 02, 2016You could build a frame to attach to your deck that could be filled with that bamboo fencing that you can get in the Home Improvement stores or even lattice(won't completely block view and allows air flow). That would take care of the side where your neighbors would be. No sure why you would need one on the yard side, but the curtain idea could be utilized somehow. Just remember you do not want to cut air flow while you are on your deck...Helpful Reply
