Woodbridge Environmental Tiptophouse.com on May 08, 2012Well Jacob, seeing you live in West Orange, I assume your in one of the older homes that either has a small closet or a room that has none. Very common in many of the old homes in that area. The closet can be constructed quite easy. However Its important to understand that you do not want to cut anything out when installing it. As sometime in the future you or someone else who may purchase your home may want to remove it and then are stuck trying to match samples of the trims etc. simply construct the walls like you would with any other wall. Screw down your floor plates, and fasten your top plates to the ceiling where you can find ceiling joists. Then construct the walls, door opening. Sheetrock and finish. Not that difficult. If you need advice or help, feel free to contact me.Helpful Reply

Karen on Mar 20, 2014Hi, I am not Jacob, but I was wondering if you had a photo or a sketch I could follow. We built our own house. Years have passed getting the farm going and inside took second place. We have a small spare bedroom with a window in the middle. I would like to build a closet on either side of the window with a desk under the window. So my thought was to build a closet on one side of the window (with a closet pole) , then the desk, then another closet on the other side ,but with shelves. Both storage units would have doors. Someone gave us 35 hollow core doors so I can cut them up if need be. The room would be used when our children come to visit. I use to have a photo of the idea, but a computer crash killed it. If you could give me some advice on the steps I would need to take I would appreciate your time. I know how to use a chop saw. I am afraid of his table saw so any long pieces. I would get Lowes to do that. I can hang sheet rock. Thank you for any help in advance. Karen PS. He ( grizzly -pet name) is tired of building so I will be doing this by myself.Helpful Reply
