Trish W on May 08, 2012Here is some detailed information on the redbud tree. Cercis, or Redbud, is a genus of about 6 to 10 species in the subfamily Caesalpinioideae of the pea family Fabaceae, native to warm-temperate regions. They are small deciduous trees or large shrubs, characterised by simple, rounded to heart-shaped leaves and pinkish-red flowers borne in the early spring on bare leafless shoots.Helpful Reply

Douglas Hunt on May 09, 2012It does look like a redbud, but in most parts of the country it would be late for those to be blooming since they can bloom as early as March in the southern part of their range. Where and when did you take the photo?Helpful Reply

Rebecca D on May 09, 2012Redbuds can split... In my case they did! And one year later (spring) I noticed new shoots , on both trees. Yea! Self grafted? Planted the Red buds in 1995, and both thrive today!Helpful Reply

Kim on Jun 11, 2016It's a Magnolia. I have two of them. I also have two flowering Crabapples, the flowers on those are much smaller. The Magnolia's usually flower before the Crabs around the first week of April in central Illinois with the crabapples soon after. Also, a Clematis is a vine not a tree. I also have a Redbud tree the flowers on a Redbud are very very tiny and grow in really tight clusters directly on the branch of the tree. I'll try to add a pic of that one and a pic of a Magnolia and Crabapple flower as well. Just hover over each pic for the tree name. All three are very beautiful.Helpful Reply
