How do you antique furniture for outdoor use
-
KMS Woodworks on Jun 28, 2013Exposing indoor furniture to outdoor conditions with give them an antiqued looked in a relatively short time. Most people try to keep furniture looking nice...outdoor furniture is typically designed or made from materials that can stand up to the weather.Helpful Reply

Mary Jane Webber on Jun 29, 2013Thanks... looks like the effect I want. Do you think it would stand up outside? Also if you don't have a heat gun would a hair dryer on high work to set it?Helpful Reply

KMS Woodworks on Jun 30, 2013The hair dryer should work..its not like your trying to us it to remove paint. Elmers glue is not very waterproof...compared to the titebond III woodworking glue I use most. With that you may have some issues with the paint job becoming wet and maybe loosing its "crackle" ...It the crackle stay you may get some premature weathering but since that is the look you after I think you should be fine. When a paint job fails like that (normal weathering) the wood bellow will begin to seen the damaging effects of weathering...Which may lead to some structural issues it the furniture was not glued with resistant glues. I have seen butcher block type tops separate because of weather exposure.Helpful Reply
