Making a wood trellis out of tree branches
-
BeazerBea on Jul 29, 2013@kathgentry First I "WOOD" suggest using a hard wood, such as oak. Look on line find some photos of what you like in a wood trellis. Gather as many long, large branches as you can. It will get messy from this point, wipe down the branches with dawn dish soap 1/2 soap/1/2 water, get branches wet- to remove any little dwellers ,, I like to use a trash can to stand upright, make your shape, drill holes for screws, screw in place and enjoy. Good luck...don't give up- and send pics when your done.Helpful Reply

Becky Blue on Jul 29, 2013@BeazerBea, Thanx for this tip. I have been wanting to use branches for a deco. project for some time, but every time I brought branches into the house,I kept finding little tiny piles of saw dust on my floor. I tried raid type product but to no avail,so I will try this. Dawn dis soap is so much more cost effective :) guess I need to trim some tree's out front! ;D I will try to post pics when all done. thanx again.Helpful Reply

Spheramid Enterprises on Jul 31, 2013Not just any wood, even oak, needs to be White Oak. Or Locust, cypress, cedar , walnut heart, cherry heart ( the sap wood will slough off in time) . If you want the bark to remain as long as possible harvest the branches in winter, if you want it to be peeled harvest when the sap is up in summer.Helpful Reply

Phil Miller on Jul 31, 2013Cypress, cedar and mahogany are woods that do not rot in the open air and rain. Choose one of these for your trellis.Helpful Reply
