Removing or covering pop corn ceiling over pre-stressed concrete

Kevin Syler on Aug 04, 2016If I understand, whether you remove it or cover it, you are going to put a tongue and groove ceiling in or something similar. I wouldn't remove the popcorn ceiling, I would use concrete screws and secure 1" X 2" pine strips to the ceiling and nail the boards to the strips. It's like putting lathes on rafters for cedar shake roof. Hope this helps!!Helpful Reply

Michael Jay on Aug 04, 2016All you need to do is spray down the ceiling with warm water and scrape it smooth with a wide trowel - put drop clothes below for easy clean up - let dry and do whatever you want to it after thatHelpful Reply

William on Aug 04, 2016I would go with Kevin Syler's idea! Easiest way to go. Make sure you check with your condo association if you can do this. Your concrete ceiling is your upstairs neighbor's floor, if there is someone living above you.Helpful Reply
