How to stabilize swing-arm rods for a bed canopy
You can see the pictures attached. The first two are my swing-arm brackets and the third is what the finished canopy is supposed to look like when finished. Thank u!

Kathy Bitzan on Sep 13, 2016On the picture the arms are closer to the ceiling, so they probably have them stabilized . It is hard to tell how big your rod is, take a trip to hardware store or even someone at Joanne's could help you. Fishing line through a hook might work also.. make them small so they are easily concealed.Helpful Reply

Julies1949 on Sep 13, 2016Those brackets aren't meant for heavy fabric. You could tie the open end of the bracket to the ceiling with fishing line, to stop it from swinging.Helpful Reply

William on Sep 13, 2016I would get a long piece of 1/2" or 3/4" piece of PVC pipe. Tie it tightly to the swing arms with cable ties right where they bend at the wall. This would prevent the swing arms from moving. You can also paint the PVC pipe to match the swing arms.Helpful Reply

Jackie Byrd on Sep 13, 2016Seeing as how one end is not anchored, I can't imagine them being able to up anything heavier than a sheer curtain. Either change fabrics or anchor both ends. I do like the way it looks in the picture.Helpful Reply

Deanna Nassar on Sep 13, 2016Cut a notch in piece of wood or plastic that would go over the arms and hold them in place. Fishing line wouldn't work because it would not stabalize the arms and would be in way of hanging the material.Helpful Reply

Suellen Hintz on Sep 13, 2016The third photo doesn't have swing arm brackets. They used two white curtain rods and screwed both ends to the ceiling.Helpful Reply

B. Enne on Sep 14, 2016I'm wondering if it would easier and cheaper to use shelf brackets. The other option would be to screw plumbing flanges on the wall in either galvanized , pvc or copper, and screw/glue/solder a straight piece of pipe into the flange, with a cap on the end.Helpful Reply

Suellen Hintz on Sep 14, 2016It's east to see the rods in the photo are closer to the ceiling compare to the swing rod in photos 1 and 2. Although photo 3 shows white fabric over white rods, if you look closely there is the end of the rod that shows at the end fartherest from the wall....and the rods aren't doing what your swing rods are doing. However, this type of rod generally has silver colored hardware the white rod clips to and I would be tempted to spray paint it white so it's less obvious. But keep in mind this hardware and the rod could be painted any color if your design calls for that, adding another touch that makes it unique.Helpful Reply

Pam Walker on Sep 15, 2016CALAPSE the swing arm to the wall. Place a dollop of hot glue into the swing arm hole that's attached to the wall & before the glue hardens, swing the arm back into position & let the glue harden. This way, it'll stay put. :)Helpful Reply

Geri on Oct 07, 2016I would put something 'rubberized' on the arms, maybe that paint-on/spray-on stuff you can use for waterproofing (the as-seen-on-tv guy that seals a screen at the bottom of his boat) ... if the fabric has something to grip onto, it may not slide as easily ... ??Helpful Reply
