Removing musty odor from tapestry

My daughter asked me to make her some drapery panels using leftover fabric we used for an antique loveseat. It was done over 15 years ago and has been stored in the attic of her home. It smells very musty. Any suggestions for removing the odor without damaging the fabric? I don't think airing it will do it.

I would try using baking soda to absorb the odor.

Silicone gel in bags like you get in medicine bottles, or in cans to remove odors in closets. (this is also is used to restore drowned cell phones)But you have to place them in a closed bag or container for a time to let the odors get absorbed. I still prefer good old fashion line hanging breezes for that 'finishing touch'.

A mix of 1/4 vinegar, 3/4 water, and a few drops of essential oil in a spray bottle. I use this on clothing I sell on Ebay. The vinegar cuts the odor.

Attic sounds like it has a damp problem which causes mold spores.Hence the musty smell. The fabric is probably covered in tiny white spores.Depending on fabric type .Try soaking in luke warm water with a drop of tea tree oil and mild soap flakes.Or u also could use instead of tea tree oil .Eucalyptus.But remember only a small drop is enough. Then rinse and air dry in the sunshine to kill the spores. The oil acts as a natural antibacterial agent.Remember less is more.

Definitely baking soda ... lots of it. Sprinkle it on the fabric, fold up and put in a large bag. Works wonders.

Costco has a large bag for a reasonable price ... I keep a bag of it around for all kinds of uses.
