Odd Size Closet Doors
-
Z on Oct 17, 2013What about using a wooden closet rod in each of the doorways and use shower curtains instead of doors? They're typically 72" long, but you could easily hem them with iron on hem tape. The other idea would be to use folding screens/room dividers as bifold doors such as these that are 70 inches tall. http://www.wayfair.com/Wildon-Home-%C2%AE-Four-Panel-Screen-in-Cherry-7246-LMJ1378.html# Not knowing the width of you doors these might not fit, but there are many sizes of folding screens available.Helpful Reply

Z on Oct 17, 2013This width might work better if your closet doors are smaller. http://www.wayfair.com/ORE-Furniture-4-Panel-Room-Divider-in-Cherry-R5443-4-ORE1177.htmlHelpful Reply

Originals by Rhonda on Oct 18, 2013You could also consider a hollow core door, cut off the bottom and CUT IT NEAT so you can pull apart the cutoff piece and take the solid bar out, glue it all around, slide it into the new opening at bottom of door and clamp it or tape it until it dries. May need a wee bit of sanding, but these doors are cheap and can often be found on craigslist in the FREE Section :))Helpful Reply

Mary Ellen Waithe on Nov 04, 2015You could repurpose bamboo or similar roll-up blinds. They come in various wood patterns (rush, wicker) as well as many plastic versions in wide variety of colors. They were popular decades ago as shades for porches. They would pull up rather than open out (more usable floor space!) and are available in widths from about 19" to about 48 inches. Rather than have the cord dangle on the floor, install a cleat on the doorway frame to wrap the cord around. That way you don't have to bend down to roll them up. To find used or free blinds, try your local freecycle.com, architectural salvage companies, or Habitat for Humanity's Re-Store. Blinds that are too wide can be trimmed with a scissors. They vacuum easily with a brush attachment, and can be hosed down using Windex hose end window cleaner (if you get recycled ones that need a cleaning), Natural wood (bamboo, wicker, rush, cane, etc.) blinds look great with a light rubbing of lemon oil furniture polish. (And smell good, too.)Helpful Reply

GrandmasHouseDIY on Dec 03, 2015Hi there, due to our budget and a lack of options we ended up making our own out of 2x2s and sheer curtains. It cost only about $30 for a set of doors and one could use any kind of fabric or plywood etc. So far we're really happy with them!Helpful Reply
