Pantry Cupboard Revamp
Hello,
It appears that there are louvered doors which close in the area. If not, use some (economical). On the doors, you could mount light weight mirrors (all girls want a big mirror). Additionally, I would paint it out a light or punchy color, and add some baskets on the shelves. You could add a nice piece of trim to the ends of the shelves if the doors would still have room the close. If the area is as high as it looks (to the ceiling), you could remove (cut) one side of the shelving and put in a rod by adding an upright piece of wood somewhere near the iddle that supports both sides. Just think of the whole thing as a box that needs to look good from the outside, and needs to be functional on the inside and go from there. That might mean doing a bit of reno-work to get there.
If there is room do a barn door-they are so popular- search for storage ideas in small places there are a bunch.
I'd make it a reading nook, lots of ideas on pinterest!
Put in more shelving. Use baskets or clear plastic containers with or without the lids. Label each container with the items that are inside. Or with pictures depending on her age.
Here is the butler pantry we made by removing pantry shelves. We hung the top of a china hutch. We built a shelf under it. So it looks built in now! We spent about $250 for the hutch, paint, trim wood and hired help to hang it! You could do a similar thing with any entertainment center of china hutch. She would have a dresser on the bottom. Room for a tv or computer. The top could hold out of season items and pretty knick knacks.
How about a desk/study area?
Hi: My first thought was shoji screens. Here is a diy shoji. My second thought would be to install additional shelves in each of the three existing shelves, but, only make them half the depth as the existing ones. Eg. the current shelves are about 22" deep, make the extra ones 12" and you can install them with white metal brackets or homemade wooden about 6" up or half way up. That way you get additional storage but can see what is on them and access them easily. Good for smaller items. My third thought would be, rather than shoji, remove the shutter door and install bamboo roll up/down blinds. You can cut them to your width, but they probably wouldn't be long enough. Good luck
Consider replacing the louvered doors with vintage doors, use chalkboard paint in the panels of the door and paint the outlying border/frame in a pop of color that matches the bedroom decor. Teen girls love "writing" or drawing on almost everything and they like change. Colored chalk will give her that option! add cup hooks inside for hanging bracelets & necklaces, baskets in funky colors will also make it modern. Consider painting the shelf edges in pops of color. Add some of those neat little battery operated "stick up" lights or a string of lights (you can get them in all colors now days! Good luck and I hope you'll post your project when you finish!
you could lower the second shelf a bit and put in a make up mirror, tap lights, baskets for hair goodies, jewelry stand etc. good place to get ready for school in the morning. When the doors are closed the mess is hidden. The first shelf would easily store books school supplies etc. The top shelf could hold plastic totes with out of season clothing. A fun color or patterned paper inside the cabinet area would brighten the space. Good luck!!!
Did you want organizational ideas? Or ideas how to use it for something else? Or ideas how to transform how it looks, but still keep it's use the same?
I could be wrong but, the space looks deep enough to put in a bed - loft bed and possibly a desk/play area/couch below -depending on her age and needs. Raising the bed in my son's small room gave him a ton of free space :)
