The easiest way would be to player the space from the dining side. Once that is in place a piece of wood either side would have to be secured to hold the weight of the shelves. It would have to be established first if power could be connected into the cavity for your lighting and if not, don't be discouraged. Stick on LED lights are just as good or rope lighting is another choice, even a battery operated one. By the look of your photo, only two glass shelves would be needed. Good luck with your project.
Thank you. I had thought of using wood framing, then drywall on the dining room side. I believe there is an outlet right below the opening on the living room side that I can tap into. I also want to frame the living room side with moldings and bullseyes at the corners so it has a finished look.
Or u could leave open put glass shelves then display can be viewed from both sides
Don't know your budget, it's a big space, but a large glass, frosted window hung on the other side would block the back, but still allow more light into the room. And easy method could be a unique collection of open-back, interesting curio cabinets arranged in the space. Then if you decide you don't really like it, it can all come out.
You can use thin wall material to close the opening, then paint it the colour of your choice, and use glass shelves of your choice. Be sure to use solid material in case you want to fix your glass shelves on it. And if you want to fix your glass shelves "unvisibly", use a hotizontaly googed material, and then use glass shelves thickness coresponding to the googes...
Here is the beginning of my closed space. next I will wallpaper the interior and then install glass shelves. I hired a handyman to do the closing up of the wall. He charged me $150 for the whole job. Not bad and I finally have my privacy in the dining room.
This looks great! Do you have a finished picture? I have 1/2 wall that I want to close up due to sound. Does the wall on the other side just look like a regular wall? Again, great job!
Just finished wallpapering on the Living Room side but still have to order the glass shelves. Here is the dining room side. I hope to get the paint to paint the walls a light pale blue.
TRIED EVERYTHING to get the whole picture but it just kept blacking out the top part. Sorry. Anyway, here is the wallpapered wall niche. I still have to order glass shelves.
