How about using electrical pipe. Comes in 10' lengths and 1/2" tp 2" diameter. It can be painted. That is what I use, even for closet rods.
Many stores that sell drapery rods also sell extensions.
We used a copper pipe for our living room.
Lowes and target carry really large ones- good luck!

Buy large round dowles get dubble ended screw and drill small starter hole in ends of wood.put screw in and connect pieces. I make my own rods. Then stain to color of your choice
Thanks for all your ideas! I learned a lot, I didn't realize that extensions were available.
and, now I have so many options I'll have my new drapes up ! No time.
Thanks again, Madolyn💕
Use a closet rod a lot cheaper. Once I used a bamboo fishing rod good luck
IKEA had at one time (and probably still do) a curtain "rod" system using some sort of strong wire and it could span a long area.
Thanks, I'll check!
Most decorator drapery rods come in 2 pieces telescoping one into the other. Just buy as many rods as necessary to make the width you need. 24" to 48" , 48" to 72". No problem getting the width you need.
Don't forget the proper supports.
IKEA has long rods and brackets for them. You could also use conduit. Pvc or metal depending on the weight of the curtain you want to hand. I just painted the pvc...it worked well.
