It is amazing what sunshine will do for old stains. Wash the curtains, hang them over a line (Lowe's has portable clothes lines) or table or chair in the direct sunlight. Spray the stain with water to keep the stain wet while trying to remove the stain. I have also had good luck with OxiClean. Good luck.
Wash with vinegar if the fabric is washable. And find the leak and repair so it does not cause more damage.
If the above methods do not work, there is a product called Rust Out that works. You can find it in the laundry soap area of most large grocery stores or hardware stores.
Make a natural solution of cream of tartar mixed with lemon into a paste.Apply to the rust spot leaving on overnight to aid the removal.Then lightly wash them with wool lite and hang dry.Do not use harsh chemicals on curtains they will eat the fabric.
