lily of the valley grow from a continuos root system, which spread rapidly...use a weed killer that you put on the leaves only....
You cn try smothering them out with black heavy plastic.

I dug mine up, put in a pot and later replanted in a corner that needs to be filled. Just have to make sure you dig a large area around it so you get all the roots. If they are around other plants and you use anything to kill them, make sure you cover the other plants around them so you don't get any overspray on them as it might not take much to kill the plants you want to keep.
