Some String and stakes to mark area. A shovel to take away excess dirt. A rake to move dirt and bucket or two to put excess dirt into. A "Screed" to level area where squares will lie. A "tamper" to push dirt down- and construction sand to put over dirt and lay squares onto. (You can make your own screed - you need a piece of 2x4 long board cut to exact size of width your new path - lay it on ground and scrape area 2 and a half inches deep to create a flat and level trough)
Thank you!
i would also recommend making a base layer of decomposed granite rather than sand, as it will harden after it gets wet and has less shifting and washing away than sand does. I used it for a garden path under and around stepping stones and was very happy with it.
I got mine from a stone works -- check wherever you can purchase large quantities of gravel ( as opposed to bags) in your area.
We used gravel and sand dig your path twice as deep as you want, mix them together level make it wider then your pavers put pavers on top will sink some after time and weather
