Our cedar deck is over 20 years old. Should we replace or just clean and stain every year?

Besides it needing a cleaning ,is the deck structurally safe?

Is it just the floor part you are talking about? One way to freshen up a wood deck floor with minimal cost (new fasteners required) is to remove each floor board and flip it over to the side that was not exposed to the weather.

If it's still sturdy just power wash and restrain/seal yearly. Otherwise you're looking at $7000 plus for composite decking .

I agree if it's sound and safe and hasn't settled away from home where it may be attached why spend, the money on a new one. You can hire someone to maintain it yearly. On the other hand if you have grown tired of dealing with this yearly procedure then go ahead and have a carefree deck installed. It depends on how high your deck is as well. Is this a high deck a walkout underneath or closer to the ground because you may wish to go with pavers.
