we put new sod on our front yard in FEBRUARY.. unheard of around the mid-atlantic where we are.. but this winter was so unusually warm, and we got a real deal on sod... soooooooo we did it.. and hoped and prayed a lot!! and now, it looks FABULOUS...

    • a couple suggestions: lay the sod out, but save all the small bits of sod to put in the middle areas, NOT on the edges.. the smaller bits seem to dry out faster if they arent surrounded by more sod...
    • WATER, WATER, WATER for the first couple weeks... daily, if there is no rain in your forecast
    • and don't get too anxious to mow your new lawn until you make sure that the sod is totally rooted, by grabbing a handful of your new grass and gently pulling up to see if it's stuck to the ground or if it lifts up as you pull it.

start from seed . So easy and super cost effective . i usually mix the grass seed with dirt then lay . Try not to do before a rain , but keep watered well till established . If birds are concern then use a rake and try to make sure the top 1-2 of dirt are mixed well with seeds , basically don't throw the seeds on top of the dirt .
