I really like that door. I do not know about the noseeums because they are so small but, how about a bug spray on the screen. Vanilla kills mosquitos and flies, they don't want to come near. I had a vanilla plant on a vine and put it near an artificial light to attract them and they died. My grandmother used extract on a cotton ball if the screen had a hole in it Seemed to be worth a try. Maybe a vanilla extract spray from the Dollar Tree. Also, the yard sprays really help here in Florida. There are some you put on your hose that work very well for months and are vey easy to use.
I wish I had an easy answer for you. The fiberglass screen is a great idea, however how will you attach it to a metal framed door? Screws drilled into the frame would seem like the most secure solution. That could damage your door and make it unattractive. There's glues, or making a frame to fit inside the frame of your door. Then you could staple the screen to the inside frame. That seems like a lot of extra work, that requires saws and a lot of measuring. If I were you, I would go to the hardware store where you purchased the screen and ask an associate there. You might need to show him/her the screen and the security door together. Hopefully, they could tell you a simple way of doing it.
Avon Skin So Soft on a damp sponge and wipe over entire screen. Works great!
Can you attach another magnetic screen frame onto the door frame? It would prevent smaller bugs from getting in and give you more privacy if you get 20x20 mesh aptly named no-see-um fiberglass!!
Are you putting the screen on the inside? If so, I would try hot glue and give it a couple days to see if it sticks and sticks for good. Then, if it does, Do the rest. Biting Midges or No Seeums' are common in your area so yes, I would do what I could to keep them out.
Another good idea is to use a natural bug repellent on your family. Here is a link with tons of recipes. Click on the photo and it will take you to their page. I hope this helps. Sandi
Apply a bead of clear caulk around the frame. Embed the screen into the caulk on one side. Use tape to hold it in place. Slightly tighten the the screen and embed the other side in the caulk and secure with tape. Then do the same on the bottom and top. Use a piece of cardboard and smooth out the caulk and screen all around. Wait for a few hours for the caulk to harden before removing the tape. At any time you can just scrape and peel the caulk to remove the screen.
Hi everyone. Thank you so much for your posts - I didn't see them until today. I ended up SEWING the fiberglass screen onto the existing door with indoor/outdoor nylon thread - it worked GREAT. I enlisted the help of my husband for the parts I couldn't reach and we had it done in less than an hour. Thanks again for your comments.
